About Mommy of Leisure
Hi! I’m Eleen, and I’m the lucky mom of two young girls here in the lovely San Francisco Bay Area. I’m just into my fourth year of being a stay-at-home-mom, and what a journey it has been!
I remember back in 2017 when I shared my news about making this transition with another working mom, and she had said, “Oh I’m so jealous, I want to be a woman of leisure too!” I recall thinking, is that what I’m about to be? The prospect of no longer having to report to work was exciting, but I was expecting the day-to-day reality of the (so much mundane) work to be more laborious than leisurely. And I’ll admit I prickled a bit at the label. Sure, maybe I’d end up squeezing a trip or three to Target on a weekly basis to stock up on “family essentials”, but I didn’t exactly expect to have all that much opportunity to lounge around with my feet kicked up and a glass of bubbly in hand all day before it was time to pick the kids up from school. Throw in a pandemic year and, well, don’t we all have a thing or two to say about that.
In all honesty, it took me a good year or so to find my groove in this new role, and about another year to fully embrace my SAHM-edness. Now, I quite relish “winning” at both my mundane household and important child-rearing tasks alike and finding ways to live up to my newly adopted title, Mommy of Leisure. With this blog, I hope to chronicle some of my favorite parenting learnings. If you’re a mom, working or not, who’s looking for ways to make motherhood and parenting a little bit easier with fun and productive techniques for tackling the daily challenges of life with kids, maybe you’ll pick up a nugget or two while you’re here. Dads and other caregivers wholeheartedly welcomed too. ;]
