This Magnetic Routine Chart Will Make You a Little Less Insane

Science tells us that having a daily routine can have big benefits for families with young kids, both for parents and their kids alike. And while “formalizing” a routine may seem like a lot of work, wouldn’t it be worth it if it would just help cut down on the amount of times you had to repeat yourself over the course of a day?

“Brush your teeth. Have you brushed your teeth? Why haven’t you brushed your teeth yet? Brush. Your. Teeth. NOW!” If that sounds familiar, this routine chart method may be just the thing for you.

Here’s what I used to make this magic happen:

Ready to get to work?

1) Print out your routine cards on your inkjet printable magnetic sheets. I used an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus with default settings (Color, Normal Quality, Fit to Page, Auto Select Paper Type).

2) Cut out your freshly printed routine cards. Scissors are just fine, but a paper trimmer will save you time and give you cleaner lines.

3) If you’d like, customize the headers and footers on your routine chart and print out however many copies you need. I made three copies of the chart, one to use for each of these three categories: Morning, After-School, and Evening.

4) Sort out the cards you need. As I mentioned, I separated mine into three categories: Morning, After-School, and Evening/Bedtime. I keep unused cards on a separate dry-erase board in case I ever need to add them in to the rotation.

5) Place your routine chart on top of the dry erase board, then lay the routine cards you’ve chosen on top of the routine chart. As you can guess, you’ll put the cards on the To Do side of the chart, and as your sweet darlings complete each task, they get to slide that card over to the Done side. They’ll feel accomplished, you’ll feel accomplished, and everyone wins! ;]
